Japanese-style Cabbage Pork Rolls are a tasty and easy-to-make dish. Thin slices of pork are seasoned with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then rolled up with cabbage and fried until crispy and golden brown.

Ingredients:

  • 200g cabbage (approximately 5 large outer leaves)
  • 250g thin slices of pork belly
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and ground pepper to taste
  • Lemon slices for garnish
  • Cooking oil for frying

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Wash and pat dry the cabbage leaves. Cut each leaf into pieces that can be easily rolled up with the pork slices.
  • Season both sides of the pork slices with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

2. Assemble the Rolls:

  • Lay out half the seasoned pork slices overlapping slightly and place half the cut cabbage on top of each seasoned pork slice.
  • Roll up each pork slice with the cabbage inside, securing it with a toothpick if necessary to prevent unrolling during cooking.

3. Fry the Rolls:

  • Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Place the pork rolls seam-side down in the pan. Fry, turning occasionally, until they are firm and golden brown.
  • Cover with a lid, reduce heat to low and steam-cook for about 4 minutes to ensure thorough cooking and tenderness.

4. Slice and Serve:

  • Remove the toothpicks if used.
  • Slice each roll into bite-sized pieces.
  • Arrange the sliced rolls on a serving plate.
  • Garnish with lemon slices.

Notes:

  • Toothpicks: Securing the rolls with toothpicks is helpful to keep them intact during frying.
  • Frying: Ensure the oil is hot enough before adding the rolls to achieve a crispy exterior.
  • Steaming: Covering the pan while cooking on low heat helps to cook the rolls through gently and evenly.
  • Garnish: Fresh lemon slices add brightness to the dish, complementing the savory flavors of the pork and cabbage.
